FAQs

  • What is the difference between an F1, F2 and F3 dog?

    • F1 is a first generation hybrid - the direct result of breeding two purebred dogs of different breeds.

    • F2 is a second generation hybrid and a combination of two F1 dogs.

    • F3 is a third generation hybrid - the result of breeding two F2 dogs together.

At Little Paws Pups we only breed F1 dogs - using a purebred dog of each type.

For some breeds it’s particularly important to ONLY breed from F1 dogs, and this is certainly true for Cavachons.

It is not recommended to have a cavalier gene on both sides as this risks reintroducing many of the diseases that Cavaliers can be prone to.

  • What are the negatives of Cavachon ownership?

Cavachons are fairly high maintenance. They need plenty of attention, love literally everyone they meet and require professional grooming on average, every 5 weeks.

If dogs don’t receive enough attention they may develop problem behaviours, so think carefully about how much time you have to devote to your dog and whether you can be at home enough to support them.

  • How long can I leave a puppy home alone?

A 10-week old puppy cannot be left alone except for a lunch walk with an outside walker. Cavachons are bred for companionship and ultimately, shouldn’t be left alone for more than 2-3 hours once a day until they are more mature (6 months) and as adults they should not be left alone all day - even with a midday walk.
